How do you leapfrog Tesla? How do you avoid failure in the car industry when global sales decline? A whole world of new technologies and new markets awaits at the IDTechEx Business & Technology Insight Forums on "Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage" in Novi Michigan 10-12 June. These Business & Technology Insight Forums will focus on global markets and current as well as future trends. The six sessions on "Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage" last 2.5 hours each and you choose which you purchase. Here is a taster:

Global sales of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) hit 2 million units in 2018 and the total PEVs on the road reached 5.3 million by the end of 2018. It took 5 years to sell the first million electric vehicles (EVs) while in 2018, it took only 6 months! This is the initial period of rapid growth that will see many key players left behind, the CO2 credits are already an example of that.

Within this the geography is changing, China is the largest market player in EVs and a leading innovator in surprising ways. In 2018, there are over 1.2 million New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) including EVs and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) sold in China, a 61.7% increase from the year before despite the 2.8% decrease in the overall automotive sector which is firstly seen in the last 28 years. China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) expects at least 1.6 million sales of NEVs in the year 2019 in China.

How are supply chains forming? How are previous suppliers coping with this shift? Is this a permanent state of affairs? What technology is the bottleneck? IDTechEx explore all these questions and more within the forums including a session dedicated to the current rise of China and future rise of India on Day 1.
