Presentation Summary

  • An alternative highly sensitive method for measuring water vapor transmission rates (WVTR) of ultra-barrier films is presented.
  • Detection limit in the 10-6 g m-2 d-1 regime
  • Several advantages: no interaction with the sensor material, no side diffusion (negligible), assessment of steady-state and time lag easier than for established methods.

Speaker Biography (Marion Schmidt)

Marion Schmidt studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Dresden, Germany and the ENSIAME in Valenciennes, France and specialized for her masters classes in packaging technology. Since 2004 she works at Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging (IVV) and since 2008 her work is concentrated on the topic of encapsulation for organic electronics.

Company Profile (Fraunhofer IVV)

Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging (Fraunhofer-IVV) is located in Freising near Munich and has 115 employees and an annual turnover of €8.6 million. The activities in the field of vacuum web coating were started in 1988 as a neutral R&D partner for industry. Since then, many large projects in the area of organic electronics have been successfully completed and packaging materials with constantly-improved functionalities have been developed.
