Speaker Biography (Pascal Chretien)

Pascal Chretien was born and raised in France before moving to Australia in 1994.
 
Chretien's career started with EADS-SOCATA with the integration of avionics on civilian and military aircrafts as well as solving EMI/EMC problems, before taking an engineering position at the IRAM labs (CNRS/MPG), developing millimeter wave SIS helium cooled superconducting receivers applied to Radio Astronomy. From 1994 to 1997, Pascal spent 3 years with Mitec Australia and was involved in the design of microwave components applied to several space programs As an engineer for SSI Australia, Pascal developed advanced navigation systems for the Royal Australian Navy mine sweepers vessels.
From 1998, onwards, Pascal took a consultancy position and designed terrestrial and space microwave communications networks in 9 countries.
 
As co-director of Rotor Research Australia, in 2001, he designed an all composite single-seater helicopter. In 2010/2011 he designed, built and flew the world's first manned electric helicopter. He was also involved in the early design of the world's first Diesel helicopter, the flight controls of Heli Air Design as well as in several government projects.
 
Pascal has been pioneering electric and hybrid propulsion applied to aircrafts since 2002 and holds several patents in the field. He is a commercial helicopter pilot with aerial work and aircraft testing experience.
