As RFID and sensor technology are more widely used, objects and goods are getting more and more "intelligent", knowing who they are, who owns them, and where they need to go in the supply chain
These intelligent goods are driving a trend of "distributed, bottom-up intelligence", which is opposed to the current "top-down" centralized IT systems, illustrated by the central ERP systems in many organisations
In the future, the flow of goods in the supply chain will start to look more like the way that data is moving through the Internet: highly flexible and efficient, but with little or no central coordination

As RFID Domain Lead, Eelco de Jong is responsible for developing LogicaCMG's RFID services portfolio. Mr. De Jong is a recognized expert in the field of RFID and often consults companies on creating business value from RFID and sensor technology. Mr. De Jong is the editor of LogicaCMG's RFID Hardware Survey 2005 and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. In addition, Mr de Jong is a Board Member of the M.I.T. Forum for Supply Chain Innovation in Boston, USA.

Mr. De Jong holds a masters degree in Computer Science and an MBA from the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management in Boston, USA.
