Presentation Summary

Each hospital in general has unique issues to deal with. It is important to define problems to address clearly before choosing a technology, since there are several different types of technology available for asset management. The presentation will describe how we went about to select a technology.

Speaker Biography

Dr. In K. Mun has spent over 25 years in healthcare. He has received a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Cornell in 1980. He spent two years at a pharmaceutical company as a group leader in automation and drug design, 16 years as a radiology faculty member at Columbia University Medical School, over four years as director of research at Miami Heart Institute and four years as director of bio-medical research at Aventura Hosptial & Medical Center, focused on research and development of clinical 1.5T & 3T MRI, PACS, HIS, CT, Ultra-high field MRI, PET, cvMRI, vCT, Ultrasound, CT-in-OR, digital X-ray, AutoID, RFID and applications in radiology, cardiology, neurology and neurosurgery. He has been interested in automatic identification technology including barcode and RFID for patient safety issues since 2000. He has been working with MIT, since 2003, in the areas of Hospital RFID applications including Active RFID asset management and hospital patient safety improvements using RFID.
 
He has over 100 publications and presentation in the areas of chemistry, computer assisted drug design, radiology, cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, high temperature super conductors, RF coils, functional imaging, MRI, CT, PACS, digital X-ray, PET, Patient Safety and RFID.
 
He is currently VP of research and technology at HCA North Florida Division, and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at UMDNJ.
