Speaker Biography (David P Brown)It has always been Dr. Brown's belief that important innovations should be commercialized to the benefit of society and he has avidly promoted the link between basic research and broad application. He is the CTO, Head of Business Development and co-founder of Canatu, a Fulbright Fellow (atmospheric physics) and a cofounder and former CEO of Canatu, Teicos Pharma (formulation of pharmaceuticals for delivery to the lungs), Particle Stream Technologies Inc. (advanced pharmaceutical powders) and StreamWise and StreamWise Finland Inc. (computer simulation of gas/particle systems). He has more than 180 scientific articles, 150 granted and pending patents and 100 invited talks on, for instance, entrepreneurship, nanotechnology, carbon nanotubes and NanoBuds™, synthesis of nanomaterials, drug delivery and nano-formulations, nuclear safety and modeling and algorithms for designing and characterizing materials and aerosol processes. He has also worked as an advisor and independent contractor for many important technology players including Honda, Du Pont, Daikin, Kemira, NASA, the Finnish National Research Centre and the Paul Scherrer Institute. Company Profile (Canatu)Canatu is an advanced materials science / component manufacturing company that has invented a new and unique carbon nanomaterial; NanoBuds™, having unique qualities and performance. Canatu has also invented a new and inexpensive way to produce and deposit carbon nanomaterials; Direct Dry Printing™ that enables inexpensive, roll-to-roll, manufacture of flexible, transparent components and devices. Short-term, Canatu's inventions enable a broad range of "green," low cost and better performing electrical, optical, and energy related devices such as displays, solar cells and touch screens, primarily as transparent conductors replacing ITO. Long-term, Canatu's materials will replace many components and devices made with traditional materials, such as silicon, metals and metal oxides, and enable new generations of flexible, transparent and robust devices. Canatu currently has 75 patents and applications in 5 fundamental families and in 9 applications families. |
