RFID at Rolls-Royce

The UTC in Control and Systems Engineering was established in 1993 by Rolls-Royce within the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield. The Research Centre co-ordinates and directs programmes of systems and control research for Rolls-Royce and is devoted to looking after Rolls-Royce's technical interests in the fields of control and monitoring systems and embedded software. The UTC carries out both short-term and long-term research with the aim of supporting the company's business aims through improving the product, improving productivity and reducing cost-of-ownership. Applications include: • Gas turbine engines for civil and military fixed and rotary wing aircraft - Advanced Short Take-off and Vertical Landing (ASTOVL) aircraft - Industrial turbo-generator systems - Maritime installations A number of work programmes are investigating strategic research topics in the field of systems and control law definition, monitoring systems, safety and reliability and systems integration.
