They are expanding their battery material portfolio by developing gel polymer electrolytes that are based on their proprietary PVDF binders. History -Solvay Group was established in 1863 Ernest Solvay in Belgium to produce sodium carbonate using the proprietary Solvay process. Today, the group is under the top 10 world-leading chemical companies. In 2011, Solvay acquired Rhodia, a group specialized in fine chemistry, synthethic fibers and polymers. The Group is divided into three major sectors of activity: chemicals, plastics and Rhodia. Formerly also active in pharmaceuticals, this division was sold to Abbott Labs in 2010 for €4.5bn.
