US Army Research Laboratory

US Army Research Laboratory The U.S. Army is working on a water-in-salt electrolyte (WiSE) that is non-toxic and is not affected by mechanical damage. Dr Lorenzo Grande interviewed Kang Xu for an update on their progress. History -The US Army is the largest in the world and has a budget that is equal to the next ten countries on the list. -Submarines need backup power and soldiers are increasingly equipped with electronic devices that need a safe and reliable power source to operate for long hours in hostile environments. Environmental aspects are also a concern, as container-size batteries left on a battlefield can be a significant source of pollution. -For this reason, they are working on water-based batteries that can be safely deployed in war theaters. ## US Army Research Laboratory
