Travel by Air

Stansted Airport


Stansted Airport is approximately 40 minutes by road from Cambridge

  • Coach: There is a coach service to Cambridge departing every 2 hours. See National Express Coaches - www.nationalexpress.co.uk to view timetables, prices and to book tickets.
  • Taxi: There is also a reliable airport taxi service: Stansted airportcarz - http://www.airportcarz.com/stansted.php. Tel: +44 (0) 1245 251888.
  • Train: If you would rather travel by train there is a hourly frequent train service which departs from underneath the airport terminal building. This journey takes from 30 minutes to 1 hour to get to Cambridge and will take you straight there. See National Rail - www.nationalrail.co.uk or The Trainline - www.trainline.co.uk for timetables, prices and to book tickets. Alternatively you can call National Rail Enquiries on +44 (0) 8457 48 49 50.

If you have travelled to Cambridge by coach or by train, you will need to get either to your hotel or Churchill College from the bus/train station. There are some taxis listed below which will take you to your destination.
 

Heathrow Airport


Heathrow Airport is approximately 2 - 2,5 hours by road from Cambridge.

  • Coach: There is a coach service to Cambridge. See National Express Coaches - www.nationalexpress.co.uk to view timetables, prices and to book tickets. However, we advise that you take the train
  • Train: You will need to get to Kings Cross St Pancras underground station to get the train to Cambridge. From the airport you follow signs for the underground, you need the Piccadilly line which is dark blue and this will take you straight to Kings Cross St Pancras. When you arrive at Kings Cross St Pancras you must follow signs to 'trains' to get to the train station. Alternatively you can call National Rail Enquiries on +44 (0) 8457 48 49 50. Trains run every half an hour between London Kings Cross and Cambridge.
  • Taxi: Alternatively you could book an airport taxi which will take you all the way to Cambridge. (See below for details).

Gatwick Airport


Gatwick Airport is approximately 2.5 - 3 hours by road from Cambridge.

  • Coach: There is a coach service to Cambridge. See National Express Coaches - www.nationalexpress.co.uk to view timetables, prices and to book tickets. However, we advise that you take the train
  • Train: There is the Gatwick Express train - www.gatwickexpress.co.uk, which takes about 30 minutes and will take you to Victoria underground station. You must get on the Victoria line which is pale blue to get you to Kings Cross underground station. This will take about 15 minutes. From there you need to follow signs to 'trains' to get to the train station. Luton Airport is approximately 1 hour by road from Cambridge.

Travel by Train

A good train service exists from London (King's Cross or Liverpool Street) and the fastest trains (the Cambridge Cruiser from King's Cross) take only 52 minutes. Cross country rail services link Cambridge with the Midlands and the North. There are no buses from Cambridge Station to the College. However the College can be reached from Cambridge Station by taxi (a journey of approximately 15 minutes)

Travel by Coach

There is a frequent express service between London and Cambridge and an hourly coach service between Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports and Cambridge. The College is a short taxi ride from Cambridge Bus Station in Drummer Street.

Directions


From the M11 (going North)


Exit at Junction 13. Turn right into Madingley Road. Follow the road down towards the City Centre. Take the next turning left into Storey's Way and Churchill College is on the left. There is no exit at Junction 13 on the M11 travelling South.

From the A428


Take exit marked for Cambridge and this will bring you down in to Madingley Road. Follow the road down towards the City Centre, following the above instructions from the junction with the M11.

From the City Centre


Storey's Way is the second turning on the right as you come out of Cambridge along the Madingley Road to the M11 and A428. This junction is marked with a traffic island in the middle of the road. Turn into Storey's Way and Churchill College is on the left.

From the A14 (East)


Take exit marked for Cambridge at Histon and this will bring you down to a large junction by a service station. Turn right and right again at the traffic lights on to the Huntingdon Road. Follow the road towards Huntingdon (past New Hall and Fitzwilliam Colleges) turning left into Storey's Way. This junction is marked by a traffic island in the middle of the road and has the Cambridge Lodge Hotel (painted white wall) on the left-hand corner. Storey's Way has two sharp "dog- leg" bends, the first to the left and the second to the right. Immediately you have taken the second bend the Churchill College buildings will be ahead of you on your right.

From the A14 (North West)


Follow the signs for Cambridge City Centre. This brings you down along the Huntingdon Road. Pass Girton College and NIAB on your left. Take the next right hand turning which is marked by a turning lane in the centre of the road with bollards and on the corner of Storey's Way is the Cambridge Lodge Hotel with a white wall. Follow along Storey's Way following the instructions as for "From the A14 (East)".

Parking
 

Parking is available at Churchill College. Turn into Storey's Way and then turn (left or right depending on which end you come into Storey's way) into the private road near the Porter's Lodge for Churchill College and the Moller Centre (sign-posted Churchill College, The Moller Centre, Visitors Conference Parking). Go to the very end of the road (past the car park for The Moller Centre) for parking.

Both car park and off road parking will be available at the end of the private road
