Presentation Summary

The new graphene product - High Strength Metallurgical Graphene (HSMG) will be
presented. Extremely high properties make graphene an interesting material in polymer
industry e.g. for graphene reinforced composites. However, it must be noted that measurable
and satisfactory strengthening effect can be achieved by encapsulating the graphene sheets (up
to two layers) between the layers of the polymer. For electronic applications of graphene it is
important to establish relationship between its electrical properties and the stress state in
which it is located. The growth mechanisms have been investigated for CVD and
metallurgical graphene. They revealed an important influence of them on the poly or
monocrystalline nanostructure of graphene monolayers. It has been shown that the platelets
boundaries structure influences very strong both on mechanical and electrical properties. The
key factors are probably: overlapping of platelets, disorientation of them and the presence of π
type bonds. All these factors should be taken into account at developing of industrially scaled
technologies of graphene manufacturing.
