Thermo-Plastically Deformable Circuits For Embedded Randomly Shaped Electronics (TERASEL) For Intended Application In Lighting
12:05 - 12:30
Overall aim of TERASEL is the development, industrial implementation and the application of large area, cost-effective, randomly shaped electronics and sensor circuit technologies.
This includes the development of a basic technology platform for rigid large-area randomly shaped electronic circuits. Key common features of the technologies in this platform are:
1. Electronic circuit fabrication and component assembly on flat substrates, compatible with existing equipment.
2. Application and embedding of the flat circuits in thermo-plastically deformable polymers.
3. Development of high pressure, low temperature thermoforming technologies to deform the polymer embedded flat circuit into its random final functional shape, while maintaining the integrity of the circuit.
The intended application of the developed technologies is shown in a number of demonstrators such as a TV set with ambient illumination, a free-form man-machine interface, an intelligent car interior component, a lighting device, and a household appliance.
From these applications, the lighting demonstrator will be discussed in terms of attractiveness of the TERASEL technologies in its application, expected reliability and industrialization.
Speaker Biography (Susanne Goldbach)
Dr. Susanne Goldbach holds a Master in Chemical Engineering from the University of Erlangen, Germany in 1994. In 1998 she received her Ph.D. in Electrochemistry at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique, Nancy, France. In 1998, she started at Philips Electronics as project leader for process development passive SMT components. In 2002, she switched to Philips Lighting, where she worked on materials and processing development of ceramic materials for conventional lighting. In the period from 2007 to 2015, she worked in various fields of material development as project manager, mainly for LED application (phosphors, substrates & optical materials). Since 2015, she is program manager for development of new materials for LED lighting application. She is (co)-author of several publications, most recently for materials in LED lighting, and holds 10 lighting related patents.
