Structural Health Monitoring Technologies - A Pathway To Industrial IOT
Santa Clara Convention Center, CA, USA
Conference Room F
15:20 - 15:40
The new generation of Industrial IOT will transform the Industrial Age to the Information Age by exploiting opportunities and benefits offered by Information Age technology and techniques. A key enabler for Industrial IOT are sensors and data procured from them. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems have the potential to provide real-time and historical sensor based data on the integrity of any structural platform.
Structural areas on any platform can introduce significant inspection challenges that push the limits of traditional nondestructive evaluation (NDE) in terms of time and cost. Using built-in sensors for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) can help overcome inspection difficulties, and can also enable real-time monitoring from cradle-to-grave. Current SHM systems have demonstrated the ability to detect, locate, and determine the size/severity of structural damage in metal and composite structures especially areas that are inaccessible without any structural disassembly.
Today's sensor systems also contain a measure of intelligence that can not only enrich the data they report but help make decisions leading to cost savings in life-cycle management for the structural platform. The key to achieving this capability however is to ensure that a network of flexible sensors and electronics are integrated properly with the structure and real-time information is obtained from the synthesis of the sensor data that can render the structures intelligent. Acellent has extensive experience in developing intelligent field-ready SHM diagnostics systems that have successfully undergone flight-testing and evaluation on military platforms, commercial aircraft, pipelines, rail systems etc.
This presentation will provide an overview of current SHM systems developed and provided by Acellent for use in various platforms. Background on the technology and examples of usage will be provided.
