The electrification of the automobile is coming of age but with it brings many challenges. The transition from the internal combustion engine to an all-electric vehicle involves the replacement of traditional drive techniques for power steering, water pump, air-conditioning and other motor driven accessories. The EV must endure harsh environments and maintain high performance and long term reliability. This is where traditional materials and techniques are starting to be replaced. Enter the ceramic substrate.
Ceramic are used in many specialty applications. But its uses are expanding, being designed into mechanical/electrical assemblies and serving as an alternative to traditional heat dissipation techniques. In this presentation we will explore the features and benefits of ceramic substrates and discuss real applications using Silicon Nitride Ceramic substrates to solve both thermal and electrical management challenges in high power modules where companies are meeting their design goal objectives.
Mark DiPerri is the business development manager for Toshiba Materials Division. He specializes in applying Ceramic Substrates for thermal management in the automotive, industrial, power grid, consumer and medical systems industry's and markets enabling companies to achieve their design goal objectives to increasing power density with innovative solutions. Prior to joining Toshiba Mark worked for Motorola Semiconductor Products, in engineering, marketing and business development where he received the CEO diamond chip award for significant individual contribution, and at Draper Labs in Cambridge MA in Research & Development. Mark has a BSEE from Northeastern University.
