Presentation Summary

The sustainability of energy storage systems is a keystone for the development of the "Green" energy economy. The use of electrochemical storage systems employing abundant and low-cost materials can allow the development of sustainable and environmental friendly electrochemical storage systems. In particular, the aluminum system appear as an interesting candidate for the next generation of electrochemical storage systems. Due to its high volumetric capacity (8040 mAh cm-3 for Al vs 2046 mAh cm-3 for Li), abundance and low cost, aluminum secondary batteries could be a viable alternative to the present Li-ion technology. In our work, we investigate the suitability of possible cathode materials for application in advanced aluminum batteries.
