Standard automotive cable harness, manufactured from round cabling, can weight from 20 to 70 kg. It is common knowledge that with SFFC (shielded flat flexible cables) this can be reduced about 70%. How about, if we were using shielded technology, so that each harness branch would be shielded against EMI?
Together with weight savings, also space savings are tremendous. The installation work can be made easier and faster with adding installation adhesives to flat harness. This also reduces need for extra cable support structures, if vehicle body is used.
When the flat cable harness needs to connect to other flat cable (harness) a shielded flat flexible cable connector (SFFCC) allows further weight and space savings. The harnesses can utilize more modular design.

Tommi Rintala has M.Sc Econ and B.Sc(Eng). He has 20 years of entrepreneurship experience, and has worked as CEO, Technical Manager, and most of the all roles in software project management, design, development and telecommunication industry. He is keen Open Source Software contributor and has focused on distributed monitoring data systems, automation technology, telecommunication industry, wood chip energy production industry and 3D graphics. He is also active diving guide. Mr. Rintala understands how large things are formed from the tiniest details and he knows what and how has to be done if something has to be created.
