Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) is set to play an important role in achieving ambitious net-zero emissions targets. Climate models have highlighted how Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs) such as Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) and Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS), as well as nature-based solutions, will be fundamental in controlling global warming.
 
Although in its early stages, there has been plenty of activity in the CDR market, with companies around the globe building machines that capture carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air and oceans, attempting to enhance natural carbon sinks, or creating the tools for a robust, transparent carbon removal market. However, many techno-economic, environmental, and societal hurdles will need to be addressed for these NETs to become commercially widespread.
