Aviation is one of the hardest industries to decarbonize. When a large commercial airliner plane takes off, as much as 40% of its total weight can be fuel. Cars can be converted to run on electricity from a battery because only 50kg of fuel needs replacing on a 1,500kg vehicle, it's comparatively trivial. The challenge faced by planes is far greater and will need a selection of long-term solutions including electricity, hydrogen, and SAF.
