Profile
For more than ten years now, the researchers from the Fraunhofer IPA department »Functional Materials« have been developing new materials and products qualities based on carbon nanotubes and other allotropes such as graphene. Inspired by topics such as energy and resources efficiency, we work in our department at synthesis, modeling, dispersion and application of nanostructured carbon. Due to the high technology standards and integration methods, we are able to find customized solutions very quickly and offer our customers a unique range of services.

Machine learning algorithm automatically sorts zebrafish eggs

Zebrafish possess almost all of the same genes we humans do - and that makes their eggs the perfect model organisms for use in genetic and drug research. Previously, samples have had to be prepared manually, which is a very time-consuming task. Now, however, a clever machine learning algorithm will be able to separate and sort the fish eggs automatically.

All eyes on Supercapacitors

Supercapacitors (ultracapacitors) are now center stage for designers of electronics and particularly power circuits. This is because they are improving faster than the batteries and electrolytic capacitors they increasingly replace. More subtly, they reduce the need for and danger from lithium-ion batteries. For example, when placed across a rechargeable battery, they protect it from fast charging and discharging and allow more of the energy in the battery to be utilised. Learn more ...
