The holy grail of 3D printing is the ability to fabricate fully functional objects in one build, for electronic device design and manufacturing of electronics. However, while the potential for using additive manufacturing for electronics is high, this space is still in its infancy, not from a lack of interest or need but because developing 3D printers for electronics is exceedingly complex and standard inks and printers simply can't tackle the task.
The presentation will highlight the many challenges of developing a professional 3D printer for electronics as well as real life applications demonstrating the many advantages of 3D printed electronics for the painstaking process of product development, including in-house rapid prototyping which takes designs from concept to prototype in hours, rather than weeks, as in the past. Business implications include faster time to market, improved efficiency, more innovative and agile product development cycles and completely new design geometries, that cannot be produced in any other way - which is game changing. Moreover, it is bringing in the era of a 'factory in a box' where systems manufacture systems.
For the past 4 years Mr. Fried has served as Chief Business Officer and Co-founder of Nano Dimension, a leading 3D printed electronics company developing technologies that enable new ways of making electronics. Nano Dimension develops hardware, software and unique nano-materials. Previously Simon has 15 years of experience as a strategy consultant and marketing advisor to both multinationals and start-ups, spanning a range of industries, including financial services, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), automotive, retail, medical devices and software.
Past positions include roles with Michael Porter's Monitor Company, the UK Financial Services Authority, Oxford Risk Consultancy, Mountainview, Oxford University, Eternegy and as co-founder of the Milk & Honey whisky distillery. Mr. Fried received an MBA from SDA Bocconi, an M.Sc. in Behavioral Economics from Oxford University and a B.Sc. in the Psychology of Risk & Choice from University College London.
