Innovations in Sensors & Actuators

Critical business intelligence covering forecasts, players, case studies, opportunities and technology and market assessment

Sensors are playing an increasingly important role for enabling improved healthcare, wearable technology and IoT. Progress in sensors involves new materials and manufacturing processes which are enabling new form factors such as flexible, thin and lightweight devices.

While the biggest market for printed sensors is currently glucose sensors (for the treatment of diabetes), there are various types of new printed sensors and therefore new addressable markets. IDTechEx forecasts that the market for fully printed sensors will be over $7 billion by 2027. The chemical sensor industry is at a tipping point, with advancements in microfabrication technology, gas sensors can now easily be integrated into a number of consumer devices. As poor air pollution affects 92% of the world's population, there is a growing need for low cost direct pollution measurement in order to combat growing air quality concerns. IDTechEx predicts that the environmental sensor market will be worth more than $3 billion annually by 2027.

For actuators, the main focus will be on new electroactive and piezoelectric polymers and their potential applications in haptic feedback, speakers, etc. In the haptics market, the challenge is to compete with the well-established and low cost actuator technologies.

This masterclass is setup to provide an overview of each of the technologies used today (including describing the supplier landscape). The speakers will detail the challenges when refining their function for each application. Finally, the opportunities for development and growth in this area will be outlined, using some examples of current research-level projects.

What you will learn?

All of these sectors comprise of a complex and rapidly changing technology and market landscape, which can make it difficult to identify genuine opportunities for companies involved or wishing to get involved or to see the current state of play.

This forum addresses both the business and technologies involved - providing deep depth including significant market data to allow you to understand these complex landscapes. Attendees will leave with a clear, quantified view of the markets, technology assessment and development roadmaps, key player profiles and their strategy for market adoption, with lessons from success and failures.

The forum is hosted by IDTechEx, which is widely cited as a global expert on these topics. Research is based on direct interviews with companies, in addition to attendance of conferences and tradeshows around the world. IDTechEx analysts are deeply technical (typically PhD level) and commercially experienced, conducting research from bases in Europe, Asia and USA in eight languages. This event is targeted to those involved in growth strategy, business development, research and engineering, innovation management. It is attended by companies involved in material supply, equipment manufacture, component and device manufacture, OEMs and systems integrators.

This forum can be attended on its own or in addition to the other sessions, which are complementary in subject matter. A discount is available for booking multiple sessions.

For those attending.

  • The PDF files of the presentations will be available to download from this website after the sessions are ended.
