Graphene and New 2D Materials: Industry Needs, Industrialization and Commercialization Opportunities (Graphene USA 2015)

Dr C.Y. (Chun-Yung) Sung, Technical Director of Advanced Technologies
Lockheed Martin
United States

Presentation Summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking to establish a multidisciplinary and internationally collaboration devoted to the design and development of advanced two-dimensional layered materials. The effort will synergistically integrate each LM business units with academic, research institute, government and leading national/international Industries. We will review industrial needs for defense and IT communities and define applications in key strategic areas for national interests in materials, devices and systems. The successful collaborations between academia, government and industry will yield opportunities in nanomaterials, define transformational goals and impact to nanotechnology.

Speaker Biography (C.Y. (Chun-Yung) Sung)

Dr. C.Y (Chun-Yung) Sung currently is Technical Director of Advanced Technologies in Lockheed Martin Corporation at Mission, System and Training and Corporate Engineering Technology Operations. Since 2001, he has a former position in IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, as the CMOS Nanoelectronics Research Program Manager, IBM DARPA CERA Program Director (Carbon Electronics for RF Applications), IBM Industrial Liaison managing the Post CMOS Nanoelectronics Program in the Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery and Exploration a multi-university research center being established under the SRC's Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI), the manager of exploratory device technology process Integration department and IBM Semiconductor Research and Development Center in East Fishkill Hopewell Junction, NY lead process integration development of deep trench technologies for 0.11mm and 90nm Vertical Transistor DRAM and 65nm/45nm/32nm CMOS logic technologies.

His focuses are on new materials and device concepts beyond the field effect transistor by various computational state. His research interests also include carbon electronics, hybrid orientation substrate, ultra shallow junction and next generation CMOS and SRAM technologies. The technologies he developed directly contribute to the birth of IBM supercomputer Watson high performance CPU units. Before joining IBM, he was the member of the technical ttaff and project lead at Applied Materials and Bell Laboratory, Lucent Technologies engaged in rapid thermal processes for high K gate oxide and silicides, and lead BiCMOS RF Mixed Signal Device development and EDRAM process integration. He received M.S., Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI in 1994,1996 respectively.
