Radar: The Most Important Automotive Sensor

Radar is now commonplace in the automotive market, and with incoming push for improved safety through ADAS, it is going to see some significant growth over the next decade. In previous years radar has had limited performance potential and so its place in the automotive sensor suite was sometimes questioned, e.g. by Tesla. However, the recent move from SiGe BiCMOS technologies to Si-CMOS technologies is enabling some miraculous gains in performance. Startups like Arbe, Metawave, and Oculii, among others, are pushing the performance of radar to the point where it can start to compete with LiDAR. The established automotive suppliers such as Continental, Bosch, Hella, NXP, Infineon, and others are also moving to, or considering the move to, Si-CMOS technologies. This webinar goes through some key technology changes, supplier market share, and some key products that are on offer.

Dr James Jeffs, Technology Analyst at IDTechEx, will discuss:

  • Introduction to radar and its place in a sensor suite
  • COVID-19 impact and factors driving adoption
  • Key supplier relations
  • Example tier 1, tier 2 and start-up products
  • Technology trends driving performance
  • Market sizing and analysis

This webinar covers some of the research from the IDTechEx report, "Automotive Radar 2022-2042".
