Inertial Navigation Systems: An Intuitive HMI Concept For Automotive Cockpits

This presentation describes the use of low cost inertial sensors to provide a more natural, intuitive method of implementing standard cockpit functions through the use of gesture controls. It explores the use of gesture recognition algorithms based on Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) to establish an artificially intelligent data analysis framework for reference-less human motion analysis. Additionally, the potential integration into automotive cockpits is discussed.
