Nanoplasmonic Gas Sensors - A Novel Technology For Air Quality Monitoring

Insplorion AB has developed a proprietary optical transducer technology called nanoplasmonic sensing (NPS) that can be employed in sensors targeting specific air pollutant gases. In this contribution we will show results from a miniaturized low-cost sensor capable of detecting NOx in the ppb concentration range in ambient air. NPS is a platform technology that can be easily adapted to sense more gases of interest. The next step in development is a new multiplexing sensor with sensitivity to other air pollutant gases (e.g. CO, SO2, O3) for assessment of air quality index in urban areas.
Olof graduated with a M.Sc. in Microsystems and Biosensors in 2003 and obtained a Ph.D. in Sensor Science in 2008 from Linköping University. After some time in academia and industry working with optical and electrochemical techniques for material characterisation and sensing he has since 2012 been responsible for the development of Insplorion's instruments and air quality sensors.
Insplorion is a Swedish company, commercialising a disrupting proprietary sensor platform, NanoPlasmonic Sensing (NPS), with currently three main branches of operation. Battery sensors, air quality sensors and NPS based research equipment. NPS makes it possible to study Nano processes on surfaces and in thin layers. Because of the sensors' high sensitivity, robustness and possibility for miniaturization, NPS is well suited for rough environments, for applications in industry or outdoors, or even in corrosive environments like inside a battery.
