Repurposing Responsibly: The World's First Second Life Safety Standard, UL 1974
Estrel Convention Center, Berlin, Germany
12:00 - 12:20
New battery technologies enable companies to repurpose their batteries and run them in different 2nd life applications.
Therefore assembled batteries need to meet the end product requirements when re-assembled into a 2nd use battery. UL 1974 is a "manufacturing process" standard that looks at the methods used to determine safety and performance of batteries, modules, and cells from used other purposes. This helps the industry to understand and evaluate the batteries although they are not new-built.
After 10 years in battery business Jonas joined Underwriters Laboratories and acts as a Business Developer for ULs Energy Systems & eMobility business across Europe; addressing market's needs, technologies shifts and applications changes into UL organization. Amongst others, he has been running a battery refurbishment facility in his previous role and was involved in facilitating battery technologies into different 2nd life applications. He has mainly been working in industrial markets such as energy storage and industrial trucks.
Around the globe, UL works to help customers, purchasers and policymakers navigate market risk and complexity. UL builds trust in the safety, security and sustainability of products, organizations, and supply chains - enabling smarter choices and better lives. In all we do, we apply science and expertise to enable the responsible development, production, marketing and purchase of the goods, solutions and innovations of today and tomorrow.
