Presentation Summary

  • One of the most challenging areas to implement RFID is in the Oil & Gas Industry. Pipes, valves, tanks, pumps, compressors, motors, distillation towers, flanges, gaskets, bolts and many others are all metallic pieces that need inspection and maintenance. People working in the O&G industry are also valuable assets that should be tracked in the field for their safety. Traceability is a must. We cannot conceive, today, the use of paper and pen to collect and later introduce that data into our computerized information system. Bar code helps but it is not enough. Case Studies of world wide deployments are showing that the use of RFID is not only feasible and desirable but also brings economic benefits to those adopters. While there are already companies manufacturing tags for this industry, some key points often missed will be presented. Particularly those pertaining the chip, the tag and the attachment as well as the packaging.
