Hydrogen in Power & Heat Applications
07 July 2023 by Chingis Idrissov
Refining, ammonia and methanol production are considered as the main end-use sectors for low-carbon hydrogen. However, it could also play a role in decarbonizing the power and heat generation sector. Applications include energy storage for renewables, off-grid energy storage, combined heat and power (CHP) generation in gas turbine or fuel cell CHP plants, residential and commercial heating as well as industrial heating in industries like cement, glass and ceramics production.
This premium article provides an overview of how hydrogen can be used in these applications, assessing the viability and commercial activities in each of those.
