Churchill College

Sir Winston Churchill retired as Prime Minister in 1955, and during a visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, spoke of the need for a similar institution in Great Britain, to train scientists and engineers for research and development and to forge links with industry and corporate business. After deliberations with governments, academics and American foundations it was decided to found a new college at Cambridge, which would become the National and Commonwealth memorial to Churchill and would bear his name.

Churchill College was founded in 1960 and was among the first major works of modern collegiate architecture in the city, but still retains the traditional concept of interlinked courts and stairways. The College is located in the north west corner of the city, just 15 minutes walk from the city centre and is set in 42 acres of rising open parkland that offers excellent views of Cambridge and the surrounding countryside. Parking is available at Churchill College.
