Extending UAV Flight Time With Fuel Cells - Intelligent Energy
Santa Clara Convention Center, CA, USA
Grand Ballroom B
12:20 - 12:40
Flight time has not kept pace with technological advances due to the limitations of traditional battery technology. For commercial use, UAVS need to offer better flight times and range. A longer flight time coupled with a quick refuel opens up a wide range of new commercial possibilities, including UAVs for inspection of offshore platforms, search and rescue, high quality aerial photography, precision agriculture, parcel delivery and much more.
Intelligent Energy's hydrogen fuel cell technology enables UAVs to fly significantly longer and can improve the run-time of other mass sensitive electrically powered technology. Intelligent Energy's fuel cell power modules run on hydrogen and ambient air to produce clean DC power in a simple, cost effective, robust and lightweight package. They have a higher energy to mass ratio than battery systems and can be refuelled in minutes. By replacing the battery with a fuel cell power module you can maximise productivity and minimise downtime meaning you can fly for longer and achieve more.
Speaker Biography (Lee Juby)
A Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a Chartered Engineer with a doctorate from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
Twenty years' experience in the development and commercialization of advanced technology focused on the generation, conversion and delivery of electrical power.
In the 1990's Lee worked as a consultant engineer at energy experts EA Technology providing technology development and consultancy services to the UK energy industry.
Lee then joined start-up business Energetix Group where he led all electrical and electronic engineering developments including the development of energy storage control solutions for the Thermetica subsidiary and the initial development and patenting of energy storage techniques for the PNU-Power subsidiary.
During a five-year appointment with Rolls-Royce plc Lee implemented a successful fundamental change in the Distributed Generation Systems business unit. The business was transitioned from a bespoke designer of diesel generator solutions to a systems business based upon new technology building blocks. Energy was sold on a provision of power basis using an operational cost model.
In 2007 Lee took up the position of CEO of VPhase plc, a company newly listed on the London market. After raising significant funds in 2008 through the enlargement of the share capital, Lee delivered the complete product engineering and market introduction of a novel domestic energy saving technology.
Lee first joined Intelligent Energy in 2012 holding a variety of commercial roles. Lee is now the Sales Director for Intelligent Energy. A member of the executive management team with responsibility for global commercial development.
