In pursuit of diplomacy, U.S. embassies and consulates operate in over 190 countries and 280 cities around the world. Managing a global portfolio of over 20K facilities, 14.5K vehicles, and 90K employees has pushed the Department to harness the potential of IoT to reduce its environmental footprint and operational costs. In this session, the Department will review how world-wide IoT deployment is not only aiding the Department to achieve more efficient and sustainable operations, but is also helping shape its understanding of future frameworks and engagement on smart-cities.

Landon Van Dyke serves as the U.S. Department of State's global coordinator of energy, environment, and sustainability efforts. In this capacity, he ensures Department compliance with federal energy and environmental requirements, advances innovations related to sustainability within operations, serves as a bridge between policy and management initiatives, and leads the agency's eco-diplomacy activities. Notable IoT initiatives include the Department's smart-metering, air quality monitoring and vehicle telematics programs. Previously, Mr. Van Dyke served on the White House Council on Environmental Quality as the Associate Director of International Affairs and Climate Change, focusing on sustainability, energy security, trade, finance and climate change.
