Abstract: Pioneering IMD/IME supplier, ADS, has a long history of first and second generation automotive applications - including the famous Ford Overhead Console from 2012. In this latest paper, their VP of Development will describe how they became one of the first production volume suppliers of Third Generation IME by using a hybrid technology in a unique application for automotive headlights. In the process, he will describe the hurdles to overcome in taking IME out of the development lab and into a production environment.
Marshall Paterson joined the ADS from the electronics industry in 1985 and spent his first 15 years with the company in a variety of technical roles in its then European location. He was responsible for developing the company's position in the telecommunications, consumer, automotive and non-automotive markets. In 2001, he transferred to the Michigan location to bring InMold and InMold Electronics technology to the USA. Since then he has held the positions of Sales Engineering Manager, Development Manager, and most recently, VP of Technology and Corporate Development. Marshall holds First Class Honors in Electronics from Napier University of Edinburgh-Scotland.
Advanced Decorative Systems is a leading supplier of 2D and 3D decorated plastic components; including instrument dials, graphic overlays, control bezels, assembled mechanisms, and touch control panels.
By harnessing their key technologies of printing, thermo-forming, injection molding and paint & laser etch into each of their fully integrated plants in the US, China, Mexico and Europe, they have created a true global footprint for their product lines.
ADS is a "Value Add" supplier for whom technological leadership means offering a complete range of services and support - from R&D concept to mass production. The company has long been regarded as a pioneer and innovator, from their earliest products to their latest line of active IMD with integrated electronics (IME). Building on their experience with highly styled surfaces, innovative backlighting, and printed touch switch sensor technology, ADS is very well placed to serve the market.
