This technology is being used as the beginnings of an open innovation platform by the Soteria Battery Innovation Group, a consortium of lithium ion battery technology companies that are dedicated to eliminating lithium ion battery fires forever. After 13 months, membership is up to 39 and includes Mercedes Benz, NASA, DuPont, Teijin, Applied Materials and others, including both startups and large multinationals. Each company brings its technical excellence to bear on the challenges of implementing and commercializing the technology.
Dr. Brian Morin, CEO of Soteria, is a serial entrepreneur, having co-founded Dreamweaver in 2011 and Innegrity in 2004, serving as President or CEO of both. He is an inventor on over 200 patents and applications, and his inventions have gathered over $1 billion in product sales. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in materials physics from The Ohio State University. He received his B.S. degree in physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was in the fourth graduating class of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
Soteria Battery Innovation Group Members are dedicated to enabling portable electric power without the risk of fires, no matter the circumstances. Our material architecture eliminates the spark on the inside of a battery that can cause fires. Our goal is to ensure that these materials are available to every battery manufacturer with local production from a broad supply base so that every device, whether a hearing aid or an electric bus, can have a battery that is virtually impossible to self-ignite.
