Automotive electric drivetrains have achieved high power density through the use of high speed motors and gearboxes. Trucks and busses have much longer life requirements and cannot use the same approach. LC Drives has developed higher power dense motors that enable more reliable solutions for trucks and buses.
Russel Marvin is founder and CEO of LC Drives in Potsdam NY. LC Drives is developing the next generation of large electric motors that are smaller, lighter, and higher efficiency than any others on the market. Prior to this, Russel was founding CEO of Optiwind, a company that developed the first distributed renewable generation that was competitive with the grid without government subsidies. Earlier Russel was part of the founding management team at fuel cell company Plug Power that achieved a successful IPO. Russel has held engineering and management positions at NCR, Kodak, Axiom, TRC, and MTI - all companies that build electromechanical products. Russel holds a PhD in Engineering from Clarkson University, an MS in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a BS in Engineering from Clarkson University.
Located in Potsdam, NY, LC Drives was founded in 2012 to pursue the development of innovative electric motors and generators with industry leading power density. LC Drives has developed electric motors that are half the size of the current best in the world. Target markets include marine propulsion, traction, wind generation, and opportunistic industrial. LC Drives products are smaller, lighter, and lower inertia than anything available. This year, LC Drives closed a $15 million Series A financing round with Koch Engineered Solutions, a unit of Koch Industries.
