Our principal focus is on developing affordable sensing textiles. There are three well established market verticals for smart textiles: wearables, agriculture and the built environment. Our attention is on creating a lateral approach that disrupts all three by understanding how to use graphene in conjunction with synthetic textiles to more efficiently monitor and manage water.
Our mission is to solve the biggest challenge for the graphene industry: replicability and consistency of performance in large-scale manufacturing. Our approach is to be graphene agnostic and we have developed a Certification Program that enables us to characterize and quality assure graphene throughout the supply chain. We apply our expertise into making textiles just smart enough to be highly disruptive.
Speaker Biography (Chris Gilbey)
Chris is co-founder and Executive Chairman of Imagine Intelligent Materials Ltd, developer of large-scale graphene surface sensing technology - "the industrial equivalent of skin".
Chris is Chairman of the Australian Graphene Industry Association (AGIA) and Graphene Certification Labs, at Swinburne University, researching techniques to ensure replicable functionality of "graphene-enabled" composites. He sits on a Standards Australia committee and is Non-Executive Director of graphene membranes company, Ionic Industries Limited.
He was Entrepreneur in Residence at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Electromaterials Science, and spun out water splitting company, Aquahydrex.
Before that, Chris was CEO of DSP company, Lake Technology, which he sold to Dolby Labs and then became a consultant to Dolby.
Chris's earlier career was in the music industry working with AC/DC, InXs, Keith Urban and others.
He was awarded the Order of Australia in 1992.

Imagine built the first scalable graphene manufacturing plant in Australia. Their first product, imgne® X3, is a conductive coating, enabling leak detection in tailings dams and is marketed by market leading Australian geotextile company, Geofabrics.
Imagine's Finnish subsidiary focuses on signals processing and software development. Together these deliver a vertically integrated low-cost, real-time graphene sensing platform that can be scaled. Imagine plans to open a North American subsidiary in 2019.
Imagine is negotiating licensing and development agreements with several Fortune 500 companies and anticipates its first products going to market in Europe and North American in 2021.
