Carbon nanotube and graphene-based transistors and electrodes have demonstrated record sensitivity in vapor sensor applications due to their high specific surface area and confined electron transport properties. The use of nanotube or graphene ink offers the possibility to manufacture such sensors at low-cost and large scale. I will discuss the coating and surface treatment of the nano-carbon which is critical to impart specificity to the sensors. I will cover of state of the art examples of nanotube and graphene-enabled sensors, processing methods as well as relevant companies that work in this cutting-edge field.
Speaker Biography (Jens Kroeger)
Dr. Jens Kroeger is the CTO of Raymor and NanoIntegris. After his PhD in physics at McGill, he joined Raymor as an NSERC postdoctoral fellow in 2010. Under his leadership, Raymor implemented a large scale nanotube production technology. He developed the purification methods that led to electronic grade plasma nanotubes currently sold by NanoIntegris. He currently manages the nanotube production on Raymor's industrial unit and directs the R&D team in their efforts on new materials and applications.
Jens Kroeger is a member of the CSA Technical Committees developing the ISO standards for nanomaterials safety datasheets and safe nanomaterials production. Dr. Kroeger has published over 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles and technical reports.
