Follow Principal Technology Analyst James Hayward through a day at IDTechEx
I joined in late 2014 straight from an MSci in Chemistry from Imperial College London. My journey has taken me through several diverse and interesting topic areas, some with relevance to previous study, but mostly completely separate.Download - Average Day of an IDTechEx Analyst (PDF)
Within six weeks I was giving a short presentation on the part of a new topic I was learning at an IDTechEx conference in Silicon Valley. Before 6 months I had the opportunity to work closely on a large project with a large global chemicals company, for which I was supported throughout by the senior team but had the opportunity to deliver myself. A year after that first conference, I was working closely with the events team to curate the agenda for the event, including delivering the keynote and building relationships with speakers, exhibitors and attendees alike.
By 18 months I took on more responsibility overseeing and managing IDTechEx's subscription platform, meaning working between the analyst, sales and IT teams, as well as with customers, to grow this key product for the company. This kind of journey is not unusual for an analyst; the team is encouraged to develop different skills in different areas, and given the means via training and the trust from the senior teams to do so. It's been a very enjoyable and productive way to spend five years at the start of my career.James Hayward

Having started at IDTechEx in 2014 as a Technology Analyst, I have since progressed and now manage a small team of Analysts.
I love the flexible work style at IDTechEx and I am always prepared for the challenges of continuous learning and crossover between technology and business in various projects. I have managed to develop distinct skills here, from deep technology understanding and market analysis, to customer engagement and project management.Dr Xiaoxi He
