Commitments made at the Paris Climate Conference amount to more than 30 million electric vehicles on the road by 2025, or 10-15% EV share of new vehicle sales in selected markets in 2025. Apart from the premium segment, where there are small compromises made by consumers when purchasing an EV, the mid-range share stands at around 0.5%, as consumers are unwilling to pay for the current price/range equation. Since even at a hypothetical US$100 per kWh, a 'gas range' battery will cost upwards of US$12,000, innovative ways of lowering the costs have to be found. This presentation will address alternatives.
