Dr. Michael Renn is the Director of the M3D Applications Laboratory at Optomec, Inc.. He holds a B.A. degree from Lawrence University in physics and mathematics and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in physics. Dr. Renn was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado's JILA institute and a faculty member at Michigan Technological University prior to joining Optomec. Dr. Renn initially joined as the principle investigator on a DARPA MICE project that launched the Aerosol-Jet technology. Since then he has been directing the Optomec M3D applications laboratory in St. Paul, MN. Dr. Renn holds more than 20 issued and pending patents related to M3D and other members of his team hold core expertise in material science, optics, and systems engineering.
Optomec is evolving the world of
additive manufacturing by enabling new dimensions in 3D printing. The LENS and Aerosol Jet families of printers support a range of materials for metals,
3D printed electronics and other applications, and are able to implement feature sizes never before possible.
