An OLED display came to attract attention due to its superior image qualities such as high contrast, wide color gamut, and quick response time.
JOLED started the production of high-resolution printed OLED display at the end of last year. The technologies and strategy of JOLED will be introduced in the presentation.
Toshiaki Arai received his M.E. degree from the University of Electro-Communications and Ph.D. degree from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology.
He joined IBM Japan, Ltd, in 1990 and engaged himself in a-Si TFT development for AM-LCD and AM-OLED display. He joined Sony Corporation in 2004 and engaged himself in microcrystalline-Si and oxide TFT development for AM-OLED display. He transferred to JOLED Inc. in 2015 and engaged himself in backplane development for AM-OLED display. He is currently assigned as a Chief Technologist of JOLED Inc.
He assumed the SID Fellow in the Society for Information Display since 2017.
JOLED Inc. conducts research, development, manufacturing, and sales activities for OLED displays, their parts, materials, manufacturing equipment, and associated products.
JOLED was founded in January 2015, combining the OLED display development divisions of Sony Corporation and Panasonic Corporation, with the goal of accelerating mass production development and commercialization of OLED displays.
In 2016, the company started up a pilot line (substrate size: G4.5), establishing a mass production technology and improving productivity. Later, in December 2017, JOLED began shipment of its first product, the 21.6-inch 4K OLED display.
