Pure Silicon Anodes For High Energy Density Li-ion: Morphology And Production Tool
Santa Clara Convention Center, CA, USA
Grand Ballroom B
17:20 - 17:40
LeydenJar Technologies BV is a spin out venture from Dutch applied research center TNO. As a cross over from thin film PV, we have developed a one-step roll to roll process to produce pure silicon anodes for use in Li-ion battery cells. In conjunction with other European battery institutes and with input from European OEM's and battery producers, we created silicon anodes that can increase the energy density of Li-ion battery cells up to 1.200 Wh/l and 450 Wh/kg. At the show in Santa Clara, LeydenJar will present for the first time to a US audience the current state of its anode technology in terms of battery cell performance, as well as the technology behind a mechanically stable silicon anode. The second part of the presentation will focus on our improvements of the PECVD technology, allowing a cost effective and scalable production method for pure silicon anode rolls with a seamless fit with the battery production process.

LeydenJar Technologies BV is a spin out venture from Dutch applied research center TNO, LeydenJar is developing pure silicon anodes for use in Li-ion battery cells, improving the energy density up to 1.200 Wh/l and 450 Wh/kg. The pure silicon anodes are based on a proprietary PECVD method to create porous silicon layers directly on top of the copper substrate. The production process is developed to reach cost parity with coating based production, while allowing for 100% silicon content. In 2019 LeydenJar will establish its base plant at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, to demonstrate semi commercial production and to produce silicon anode rolls for testing and first commercial products.
