In his presentation Ampyx Power's founder and Technical Director Richard Ruiterkamp will give you an insight into how he and his team of more than 40 engineers is developing an Airborne Wind Energy System with a tethered, rigid wing, aircraft. Richard will tell about Ampyx Power's focus on safety: the company has started constructing a pre-operational demonstrator, AP-3, which approaches the safety and reliability levels of commercial airliners. He will also explain how the test- and verification campaign will look like at E.ON's demonstration site for Airborne Wind Energy concepts in Ireland and how Ampyx Power will scale up to 2 MW of rated power and more.
Mr. Richard Ruiterkamp is the founder and technical director of Ampyx Power. He covered a scientific career spanning 9 years of ground-breaking work in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Astrophysics. He worked on Airborne Wind Energy systems since 2006, initially as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the Delft University of Technology. He holds a PhD in Astrophysics from Leiden University.
Ampyx Power develops Airborne Wind Energy Systems, harvesting stronger and constant winds that conventional turbines cannot reach. This opens up new deployment areas deeper offshore and further inland in remote areas. A team of more than 40 engineers is working from The Netherlands and Australia to develop a system with a rigid wing autonomous aircraft that meets the strict safety requirements of civil aviation.
