Honored VIP speaker

Dr. Masahiro Inoue
Gunma University

Research progress with
stretchable electronics.

Masahiro Inoue is a lecturer of ASRLD unit, Gunma University, Japan. He received a PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Osaka University, 2001. His current research focuses on characterization and application of novel polymer based composites using micro- and nano-fillers. He also develops stretchable E-textile systems for measuring biological signals using several printing methods.

From disposable sensors to wearable technology.
Critical business intelligence covering forecasts, players, case studies, opportunities and technology and market assessment

Sensors are playing an increasingly important role for enabling improved healthcare, wearable technology and IoT. While the biggest market for printed and flexible sensors is currently glucose sensors (for the treatment of diabetes), a new generation of printed or flexible sensors are now emerging from R&D and the range of applications is vast. There are many types of sensors and therefore many addressable markets. IDTechEx forecasts that the market for fully printed sensors will be over $8 billion by 2025.

Progress in sensors involves new materials and manufacturing processes which are enabling new form factors such as flexible, thin and lightweight devices. These are being exploited in consumer electronics including wearable technology and IoT.

The conductive ink and paste business is a large market that will generate $2.3 billion in 2015 in revenue at the ink/paste level. This market however is segmented, consisting of many emerging and mature markets. Notable markets are photovoltaics, touch screens, automotive and sensors. Growth will be unevenly spread with several target markets experiencing rapid growth while others decline. There is now rapid innovation in copper inks and silver alloys, in addition to new sintering processes, fuelled by new applications and changes in existing ones.

Of significant interest is stretchable inks and inks compatible with textiles, driven by applications from moldable electronics for automotive and appliances to wearable technology using thin, flexible electronic and electrical devices.

What you will learn?

All of these sectors comprise of a complex and rapidly changing technology and market landscape, which can make it difficult to identify genuine opportunities for companies involved or wishing to get involved or to see the current state of play.

This forum addresses both the business and technologies involved - providing deep depth including significant market data to allow you to understand these complex landscapes. Attendees will leave with a clear, quantified view of the markets, technology assessment and development roadmaps, key player profiles and their strategy for market adoption, with lessons from success and failures.

The forum is hosted by IDTechEx, which has been studying this topic since 1999, and which is widely cited as a global expert on these topics. Research is based on direct interviews with more than 500 companies, in addition to informal interviews with approximately 1,000 companies each year. IDTechEx analysts are deeply technical (typically PhD level) and commercially experienced, conducting research from bases in Europe, Asia and USA in six languages.

This event is targeted to those involved in growth strategy, business development, research and engineering, innovation management. It is attended by companies involved in material supply, equipment manufacture, component and device manufacture, OEMs and systems integrators.

All Insight Forums will be conducted in English

This forum can be attended on its own or in addition to the Flexible Displays, Barrier Layers, Batteries and Transparent Conductive Films forum in the afternoon, which is complementary in subject matter. A discount is available for booking both.
