At its heart the internet of things is an enabler for innovation and business transformation to the point that IoT and Innovation are synonymous. IoT is not new it has been around for many years and has been known by many names including M2M and SCADA. This presentation introduces a number of technologies, trends and driving forces that will enable IoT to truly deliver the potential that has been there for years but can now be realized at scale.

Dave is a long time IBMer who started on the mainframe with CICS and has worked he way down to the tiny world of sensors and actuators. For many years he has enjoyed playing in what is today called the Internet of Things (IoT). Connecting up "Things" is not new or novel but the approach taken and emerging technologies enable a vast range of new and innovative uses. Dave is an evangelist for IoT both in business helping to build IBM's IoT ecosystem and outside in education and for fun. His day job focuses on connecting as much silicon as possible in an open, inter-operable, scaleable and secure manner.
