Joe received a Ph.D in Physical Chemistry from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) in 1975 and for more than 40 years, has been at the forefront of chemical sensor and associated technology as a leading researcher, entrepreneur, author, and educator. In his early career, Dr. Stetter developed patented electrochemical sensors, the first operational sensor-array based instrument (electronic nose), and the first electrochemical dosimeters for gas detection. Products he championed for personal protection and environmental monitoring saved lives, improved worker health, and promoted the well-being of people and the planet. As Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Dr. Stetter taught both chemistry and entrepreneurship, while advancing the applications of nanotechnology in gas detection. Dr. Stetter has founded several technology-based sensor companies, received numerous awards for his work, and published hundreds of scientific papers. With over 50 patents, his work is the foundation of many sensor and gas detection products with some in for more than 25 years.
