Gallium Nitride (GaN) is creating an innovative shift throughout the power electronics world. For decades silicon-based semiconductors have been the leaders in converting energy to power, but we are now are now reaching the limit on how much silicon can do. GaN is on the rise to replace silicon as the backbone of power electronics especially in the automotive world for electric vehicles. GaN is meeting the growing needs with better power systems efficiency, performance and systems cost. This session will cover the technical aspects of how GaN is more efficient and will continue with a discussion about which specific applications can benefit from GaN along with some of the challenges the technology is facing.
