The rapid increase in functionality of the Internet of Things (IoT) is driving the need for lower power consumption in semiconductor devices used in battery-powered products. However, further power saving in bulk semiconductor processes is limited due to the law of physics. An innovative approach is required to realize further low power consumption that matches market needs. This talk focuses on Renesas's next generation of ultra-low power with SOI process technology called Silicon-on-Thin-Buried-Oxide (SOTB) with its key advantages, and how the SOTB technology can be applied to Energy Harvesting in IoT applications.
