BroadBit Batteries has developed and is commercializing an novel low cost, high performance based on NaCl and metallic sodium. The technology has the potential to have in excess of 300 Wh/kg energy density, is non-flamable, has a wide temperature operating range (-20 to +60C) and is capable of scaled to meet the coming 100x increase in the rechargeable battery use in the coming decades due to the use of low cost and abundant raw materials. In this talk BroadBit, will present the latest data on 18650 cell performance.
It has always been Dr. Brown's belief that important innovations should be commercialized to the benefit of society and he has avidly promoted the link between basic research and broad commercial application.
He is currently the co-founder and CEO of BroadBit Batteries and has been a Fulbright Fellow (atmospheric physics) and a co-founder and former CEO of Canatu (www.canatu.com: carbon nanomaterial based films for electronics, optics and energy production and storage), Teicos Pharma (www.teicospharma.com: formulation of pharmaceuticals for delivery to the lungs), Almakor (www.almakor.com: Optical fiber manufacturing processes) and StreamWise (www.streamwisecfd.eu: computer simulation of gas/particle systems).
He has more than 180 scientific articles, 200 granted and pending patents and 250 invited talks on, for instance, thin film electronics, entrepreneurship, nanotechnology, carbon nanotubes and NanoBud®, synthesis and deposition of nanomaterials, drug delivery and nano-formulations, nuclear safety and modeling and algorithms for designing and characterizing materials and aerosol processes. He has also worked as an advisor and independent contractor for many important technology players including Honda, Du Pont, Daikin, Kemira, NASA, the Finnish National Research Centre and the Paul Scherrer Institute.
BroadBit is developing revolutionary new batteries using novel sodium-based chemistries to power the future green economy. BroadBit sells standard and custom sized batteries and ready electrode films and electrolytes for two battery types:
1) High energy batteries with twice the energy density of traditional lithium ion batteries and
2) High power batteries with five times faster charging time than traditional lithium ion batteries.
Uses include battery packs for electric vehicles including cars, buses, boats and planes, consumer electronic devices including mobile phones and computers and grid storage units for individual, local and regional power stabilization.
