Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) as a Miniaturized Optical Biosensor
Santa Clara Convention Center, CA, USA
Room details: TBA
Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM), also called Multi-pixel Photon Counters (MPPC) are solid-state semiconductor chips that sense and quantify light signals down to a single photon, meanwhile maintaining a large dynamic range up to millions with good linearity. The size of these chips can vary from micrometers to millimeters. By integrating the low-light detection capabilities of photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) into compact, highly reliable, and economical solid-state sensors, SiPM modules are superior alternatives to PMTs. Unlike PMTs, SiPM sensors can be integrated with microfluidics and other semiconductor or biochips for miniature biomedical devices and biosensors.
Dr. Owen (Huawen) Wu has been developing customer applications and products in the field of spectroscopic and imaging instrumentation, primarily for life sciences in the past decade. Currently he is leading cross-functional groups on development and delivery of optical modules for customer in biomedical and optical sensing markets. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Science from UC Davis.
Three leading optics companies merged in 2016 to form Hitronics. By sharing 35 years of combined experience under one roof, now Hitronics is a world-class manufacturer of precision optics, embracing the challenges of design to volume production across the biomedical, LiDAR, telecom, laser, and instrumentation industries. Headquartered in Fuzhou, China with offices in the USA and Europe, the global team of ~900 skilled employees is dedicated to meeting the worldwide demand for truly cost-effective optics produced with the highest standard for quality.
