Printing medicine is a promising but not yet fully developed approach which provides multiple advantages compared to other established manufacturing processes. Producing individualized drug dosage forms by inkjet printing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) onto inactive substrates has great potential in fulfilling the promise of personalized medicine: providing a dosage form specific to each individual patient.
Dr. Heinz Pichler studied earth sciences with focus on mineralogy and crystallography at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz, Austria. He did his PhD with in the field of functional surfaces and has experience of more than twelve years in the field of inkjet- and aerosol jet printing. Since 2014 he is working as a senior scientist at the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering (RCPE) in Graz. His main interests are manufacturing and characterization of printed and personalized medicine.
